Darrick J. Wong c9d6c22ded libext2fs: don't allow alloc_stats on bad inode/block numbers
Don't allow callers to feed bad block/inode numbers to
ext2fs_*_alloc_stats2, because evil callers (<cough>resize2fs<cough>)
can corrupt library state this way, leading to a crash.

(There will be a subsequent patch to resize2fs to fix its bad
behavior.)

Theodore Ts'o a30a4e93f3 libext2fs: fix free block accounting for 64-bit file systems
We rely on a nasty hack to adjust the free block count where we pass
signed value into ext2fs_free_blocks_count_add(), which takes an
64-bit unsigned value, and relies on overflow and C's signed->unsigned
semantics to do the subtraction. This works, so long as a 64-bit
signed value is used.

Unfortunately, ext2fs_block_alloc_stats2() and
ext2fs_block_alloc_stats_range(), this is not true, so on a 64-bit
file system, the free blocks accounting can get screwed up.

A simple way to demonstrate the problem is:

mke2fs -F -t ext4 -O 64bit /tmp/foo.img 1M
e2fsck -fy /tmp/foo.img

... which will result in the following e2fsck complaint:

Pass 5: Checking group summary information
Free blocks count wrong (4294968278, counted=982).
Fix? yes

Darrick J. Wong b052dc1c8d libext2fs: fix 64bit overflow in ext2fs_block_alloc_stats_range
In ext2fs_block_alloc_stats_range(), the quantity "-inuse * n" is
calculated as a signed 32-bit quantity. Unfortunately, gcc (4.6.3 on
Ubuntu 12.04) doesn't sign-extend this quantity to fill the blk64_t
parameter that ext2fs_free_blocks_count_add() wants, so the end result
is that the superblock gets a ridiculously huge free block count.

Changing the declaration of 'n' to blk64_t seems to fix this.

Theodore Ts'o 5c41451e16 libext2fs: add ext2fs_block_alloc_stats_range()
This function is more efficient than using ext2fs_block_alloc_stats2()
for each block in a range. The efficiencies come from being able to
set a block range in the block bitmap at once, and from being update
the block group descriptors once per block group. Especially now that
we are checksuming the block group descriptors, and we are using red
black trees for the allocation bitmaps, these changes can make a huge
difference in the CPU time used by mke2fs when creating very large
file systems.

Darrick J. Wong 5b58dc2304 libext2fs: block group checksum should use metadata_csum algorithm
Change the block group algorithm to use the same algorithm as the rest
of the metadata_csum. This mostly involves providing a helper
function to tell if group descriptors should have checksums set or
verified, and modifying the gdt checksum code to use the correct
algorithm.

Theodore Ts'o d1154eb460 Shorten compile commands run by the build system
The DEFS line in MCONFIG had gotten so long that it exceeded 4k, and
this was starting to cause some tools heartburn. It also made "make
V=1" almost useless, since trying to following the individual commands
run by make was lost in the noise of all of the defines.

So fix this by putting the configure-generated defines in lib/config.h
and the directory pathnames to lib/dirpaths.h.

In addition, clean up some vestigal defines in configure.in and in the
Makefiles to further shorten the cc command lines.

Eric Sandeen e633b58ac7 libext2fs: clean up ext2fs_bg_flags_ interfaces
The ext2fs_bg_flag* functions were confusing.

Currently we have this:

void ext2fs_bg_flags_set(ext2_filsys fs, dgrp_t group, __u16 bg_flags);
void ext2fs_bg_flags_clear(ext2_filsys fs, dgrp_t group,__u16 bg_flags);

(_set (unused) sets exactly bg_flags; _clear clears all and ignores bg_flags)

and these, which can twiddle individual bits in bg_flags:

void ext2fs_bg_flag_set(ext2_filsys fs, dgrp_t group, __u16 bg_flag);
void ext2fs_bg_flag_clear(ext2_filsys fs, dgrp_t group, __u16 bg_flag);

A better interface, after the patch below, is just:

ext2fs_bg_flags_zap(fs, group) /* zeros bg_flags */
ext2fs_bg_flags_set(fs, group, flags) /* adds flags to bg_flags */
ext2fs_bg_flags_clear(fs, group, flags) /* clears flags in bg_flags */

and remove the original ext2fs_bg_flags_set / ext2fs_bg_flags_clear.

Theodore Ts'o cf4e06d665 libext2fs: Add sanity checks to ext2fs_{block,inode}_alloc_stats
If ext2fs_inode_alloc_stats2() or ext2fs_block_alloc_stats() is passed
an insanely large inode or block number, it's possible for these
functions to overrun an array boundary and cause the calling program
to crash with a memory error.

Detect this case, and since these functions don't return an error
code, print a warning message, much like we do in ext2fs_warn_bitmap2().

Theodore Ts'o 5711ed297b Transfer responsibility of setting the *_UNINIT flags to libext2fs
Mke2fs used to have special case, ugly code in
setup_lazy_bg/setup_uninit_bg flag which set the flags based on all
sorts of special cases. Change it so that it is done in libext2fs,
and fix mke2fs to use alloc_stats functions which will take care of
clearing the *_UNINIT flags automatically as needed.

This is preparatory work to make the flex_bg allocation patch much
cleaner.
