Theodore Ts'o f00948ad1d libext2fs: have UNIX IO manager use pread64/pwrite64
Commit baa3544609 ("libext2fs: have UNIX IO manager use
pread/pwrite) causes a breakage on 32-bit systems where off_t is
32-bits for file systems larger than 4GB. Fix this by using
pread64/pwrite64 if possible, and if pread64/pwrite64 is not present,
using pread/pwrite only if the size of off_t is at least as big as
ext2_loff_t.

Darrick J. Wong baa3544609 libext2fs: have UNIX IO manager use pread/pwrite
If pread/pwrite are present, have the UNIX IO manager use them for
aligned IOs (instead of the current seek -> read/write), thereby
saving us a (minor) amount of system call overhead.

Andreas Dilger 51050544b5 blkid: remove unnecessary header and comment
The LIST_HEAD macro is not directly used in getsize.c, so
<sys/queue.h> is not needed at all, and could cause confusion at
some later point if the Linux-style list macros are ever used.

Build was verified on MacOS which defined HAVE_SYS_DISK_H true.
I manually inspected the sources for recent *BSD headers to check
if this was needed there or not. MacOS and FreeBSD <sys/disk.h>
do not use lists at all. NetBSD and OpenBSD <sys/disk.h> and all
of the <sys/mount.h> headers include <sys/queue.h> internally.

I used http://fxr.watson.org/fxr/source/sys/mount.h?v={OSTYPE}
as a reference, checking both old and new *BSD versions.

Theodore Ts'o 2de2628b2d mke2fs: check for a partition table and warn if present
This supercedes the "whole disk" check, since it does a better job and
there are times when it is quite legitimate to want to use the whole
disk.

Theodore Ts'o c714d02482 Fix up the Makefiles dependencies in lib/ext2fs and lib/quota
Also use angle brackets for the #include of dirpaths.h to avoid the
need to manually massage the Makefile.in for the util directory. This
is needed because we have to create a fake dirpaths.h file in the util
directory. The fake dirpaths.h file is rquired to break the circular
dependency caused by util/subst creating dirpaths.h, while
util/subst.c is including config.h, which includes dirpaths.h.

Baruch Siach 9a39389185 e4defrag: choose the best available posix_fadvise variant
Use posix_fadvise64() when available. This allows 64bit offsets on
32bit systems.

[ Modified by tytso to try to use fadvise64() as well, and to remove
the attempt to call the syscall directly, since because and
complexities caused by required dummy arguments on some
architectures, it's not worth the hair. ]

Theodore Ts'o 2873927d15 subst: clean up various coverity nits
Add appropriate error checking for all error returns, and only open
each file that we need to manipulate once, to avoid potential
time-of-check/time-of-use races. (Not that this is likely for this
program, but the result is much more clean.)

We also preserve the atime in the case where the file has not changed.

Theodore Ts'o 4bd63b215f update config.h.in file to enable loopback mount detection
Commit fbabd5c44c added loopback mount detection. However, we
failed to update the config.h file, so the code wasn't actually
enabled. Fix this oversight.

Theodore Ts'o 1ad3174af5 Try to use secure_getenv() in preference to __secure_getenv()
If secure_getenv() use it in preference to __secure_getenv().
Starting with (e)glibc version 2.17, secure_getenv() exists, while
__secure_getenv() only works with shared library links (where it is a
weak symbol), but not for static links with /lib/libc.a

Phillip Susi 274d46e1d3 libext2fs: fix ext2fs_llseek on i386
ext2fs_llseek() was using lseek instead of lseek64. The
only time it would use lseek64 is if passed an offset that
overflowed 32 bits. This works for SEEK_SET, but not
SEEK_CUR, which can apply a small offset to move the file
pointer past the 32 bit limit.

The code has been changed to instead try lseek64 first, and
fall back to lseek if that fails. It also was doing a
runtime check of the size of off_t. This has been moved to
compile time.

This fixes a problem which would cause e2image when built for
x86-32 to bomb out when used with large file systems.

Theodore Ts'o 3b802e43d9 libquota: remove quota_is_on() which was the last user of quotactl()
The quotactl() system call was being used without the use of a
function prototype. On closer examination, it turns out the one user
of that system call was the quota_is_on() function, which is not used
by e2fsprogs at all. Since libquota is an e2fsprogs-internal library,
and not one that we plan to export any time soon, the simplest thing
to do is to simply remove quota_is_on(), which in turn allows us to
remove all of the infrastructure around using the Linux-specific
quotactl() system call.

Theodore Ts'o b24efa2187 Don't assume that the presence of mntent.h means that setmntent() exists
Change autoconf to test for setmntent() and use that to decide whether
to use getmntent() and setmntent(), since some systems don't have
setmntent() but they do have the mntent.h header file.

Also, remove the includes of mntent.h from e2fsck and mke2fs and other
places where it is not needed.

some buglets that we need to fix up before it can be considered 100%
supported, so let's disable it for the 1.42 release.

Theodore Ts'o edbfd75d8f libquota: clean up some gcc -Wall warnings
Remove unused variables, places where 'return' was used with no value
in a non-void function, missing function declarations, etc. Don't
assume that all systems have quotactl(), and use <sys/quota.h> if it
exists to define the quotactl interfaces.

One of the unused variables also got rid of a non-portable use of
PATH_MAX.

Theodore Ts'o d1154eb460 Shorten compile commands run by the build system
The DEFS line in MCONFIG had gotten so long that it exceeded 4k, and
this was starting to cause some tools heartburn. It also made "make
V=1" almost useless, since trying to following the individual commands
run by make was lost in the noise of all of the defines.

So fix this by putting the configure-generated defines in lib/config.h
and the directory pathnames to lib/dirpaths.h.

In addition, clean up some vestigal defines in configure.in and in the
Makefiles to further shorten the cc command lines.
