Other accelerators have their own headers: sysemu/hax.h, sysemu/hvf.h,

headers, which is against the rules spelled out in qemu-common.h's
file comment.
Move tcg_enabled() & friends into their own header sysemu/tcg.h, and
adjust #include directives.

Now we have a common semihosting console interface use that for our
string output. However ARM is currently unique in also supporting
semihosting for linux-user so we need to replicate the API in
linux-user. If other architectures gain this support we can move the
file later.

In current code, __NR_msgrcv and__NR_semtimedop are supposed to be
defined if __NR_msgsnd is defined.
But linux headers 5.2-rc1 for MIPS define __NR_msgsnd without defining
__NR_semtimedop and it breaks the QEMU build.
__NR_semtimedop is defined in asm-mips/unistd_n64.h and asm-mips/unistd_n32.h
but not in asm-mips/unistd_o32.h.
Commit d9cb433615 ("linux headers: update against Linux 5.2-rc1") has
updated asm-mips/unistd_o32.h and added __NR_msgsnd but not __NR_semtimedop.
It introduces __NR_semtimedop_time64 instead.
This patch fixes the problem by checking for each __NR_XXX symbol
before defining the corresponding syscall.

Since Linux 2.6 the stat syscalls have mostly supported nanosecond
components for each of the file-related timestamps.
QEMU user mode emulation currently does not pass through the nanosecond
portion of the timestamp, even when the host system fills in the value.
This results in a mismatch when run on subsecond resolution filesystems
such as ext4 or XFS.
An example of this leading to inconsistency is cross-debootstraping a
full desktop root filesystem of Debian Buster. Recent versions of
fontconfig store the full timestamp (instead of just the second portion)
of the directory in its per-directory cache file, and checks this against
the directory to see if the cache is up-to-date. With QEMU user mode
emulation, the timestamp stored is incorrect, and upon booting the rootfs
natively, fontconfig discovers the mismatch, and proceeds to rebuild the
cache on the comparatively slow machine (low-power ARM vs x86). This
stalls the first attempt to open whatever application that incorporates
fontconfig.
This patch renames the "unused" padding trailing each timestamp element
to its nanosecond counterpart name if such an element exists in the
kernel sources for the given platform. Not all do. Then have the syscall
wrapper fill in the nanosecond portion if the host supports it, as
specified by the _POSIX_C_SOURCE and _XOPEN_SOURCE feature macros.
Recent versions of glibc only use stat64 and newfstatat syscalls on
32-bit and 64-bit platforms respectively. The changes in this patch
were tested by directly calling the stat, stat64 and newfstatat syscalls
directly, in addition to the glibc wrapper, on arm and aarch64 little
endian targets.

For those hosts with SHMLBA > getpagesize, we don't automatically
select a guest address that is compatible with the host. We can
achieve this by boosting the alignment of guest_base and by adding
an extra alignment argument to mmap_find_vma.

Sanitize interp_info structure in load_elf_binary() and, for MIPS only,
init its field fp_abi to MIPS_ABI_FP_UNKNOWN. This fixes appearances of
"Unexpected FPU mode" message in some MIPS use cases. Currently, this
bug is a complete stopper for some MIPS binaries.
In load_elf_binary(), struct image_info interp_info is used without
being properly initialized. One result is that when the ELF's program
header doesn't contain an entry for the ABI flags, then the value of
the struct image_info's fp_abi field is set to whatever happened to
be in stack memory at the time.
Backporting to 4.0 and, if possible, to 3.1 is recommended.

Add support for getting and setting extended private flags of a
network device via SIOCSIFPFLAGS and SIOCGIFPFLAGS ioctls.
The ioctl numeric values are platform-independent and determined by
the file include/uapi/linux/sockios.h in Linux kernel source code:

These ioctls get (or set) the field ifr_flags of type short in the
structure ifreq. Such functionality is achieved in QEMU by using

or SIGURG signals when I/O becomes possible or urgent data is available,

Debian console-setup uses /proc/hardware to guess the keyboard layout.
If the file /proc/hardware cannot be opened, the installation fails.
This patch adds a pseudo /proc/hardware file to report the model of
the machine. Instead of reporting a known and fake model, it
reports "qemu-m68k", which is true, and avoids to set the configuration
for an Amiga/Apple/Atari and let the user to chose the good one.

SPARC libc6 debian package wants to check the cpu level to be
installed or not:
WARNING: This machine has a SPARC V8 or earlier class processor.
Debian lenny and later does not support such old hardware
any longer.
To avoid this, it only needs to know if the machine type is sun4u or sun4v,
for that it reads the information from /proc/cpuinfo.

When the -seed option is given, call qemu_guest_random_seed_main,
putting the subsystem into deterministic mode. Pass derived seeds
to each cpu created during clone; which is a no-op unless the
subsystem is in deterministic mode.

Record the software fp control register, as set by the

Leading underscores are ill-advised because such identifiers are
reserved. Trailing underscores are merely ugly. Strip both.
Our header guards commonly end in _H. Normalize the exceptions.

Reuse of the same guard symbol in multiple headers is okay as long as
they cannot be included together. scripts/clean-header-guards.pl
can't tell, so it warns.
Since we can avoid guard symbol reuse easily, do so: use guard symbol
${target^^}_${fname^^} for linux-user/$target/$fname, just like we did
in commit a9c94277f0..3500385697.

When linux-user/exit was introduced we failed to move the gprof
include at the same time. The CI didn't notice because it only builds
system emulation. Fix it for those that still find gprof useful.

The guest tends to get confused when it receives signals it doesn't
know about. Given the gprof magic has also set up it's own handler we
would do well to avoid stomping on it as well.

Some PT_LOAD segments may be completely zeroed out and their p_filesize
is zero, in that case the loader should just allocate a page that's at
least p_memsz bytes large (plus eventual alignment padding).
Calling zero_bss does this job for us, all we have to do is make sure we
don't try to mmap a zero-length page.

CPUClass method dump_statistics() takes an fprintf()-like callback and
a FILE * to pass to it. Most callers pass fprintf() and stderr.
log_cpu_state() passes fprintf() and qemu_log_file.
hmp_info_registers() passes monitor_fprintf() and the current monitor
cast to FILE *. monitor_fprintf() casts it right back, and is
otherwise identical to monitor_printf().
The callback gets passed around a lot, which is tiresome. The
type-punning around monitor_fprintf() is ugly.
Drop the callback, and call qemu_fprintf() instead. Also gets rid of
the type-punning, since qemu_fprintf() takes NULL instead of the
current monitor cast to FILE *.

The various TARGET_cpu_list() take an fprintf()-like callback and a
FILE * to pass to it. Their callers (vl.c's main() via list_cpus(),
bsd-user/main.c's main(), linux-user/main.c's main()) all pass
fprintf() and stdout. Thus, the flexibility provided by the (rather
tiresome) indirection isn't actually used.
Drop the callback, and call qemu_printf() instead.
Calling printf() would also work, but would make the code unsuitable
for monitor context without making it simpler.

This commit adds a error_init() helper which calls
g_log_set_default_handler() so that glib logs (g_log, g_warning, ...)
are handled similarly to other QEMU logs. This means they will get a
timestamp if timestamps are enabled, and they will go through the
HMP monitor if one is configured.
This commit also adds a call to error_init() to the binaries
installed by QEMU. Since error_init() also calls error_set_progname(),
this means that *-linux-user, *-bsd-user and qemu-pr-helper messages
output with error_report, info_report, ... will slightly change: they
will be prefixed by the binary name.
glib debug messages are enabled through G_MESSAGES_DEBUG similarly to
the glib default log handler.
At the moment, this change will mostly impact SPICE logging if your
spice version is >= 0.14.1. With older spice versions, this is not going
to work as expected, but will not have any ill effect, so this call is
not conditional on the SPICE version.

when we neglect to update trace-events for code motion, or add events
in the wrong place, or misspell the file name.
Clean up with help of cleanup-trace-events.pl. Same funnies as in the

This change checks elf_flags for EF_RISCV_RVE and if
present uses the RVE linux syscall ABI which uses t0
for the syscall number instead of a7.
Warn and exit if a non-RVE ABI binary is run on a
cpu with the RVE extension as it is incompatible.

Nios II user-mode emulation was missing handling for EXCP_DEBUG,
making the gdb stub essentially useless. This patch adds the missing
piece. The new code was copied from the existing EXCP_TRAP handling
and is also similar to what other targets (e.g., arm) do with EXCP_DEBUG.

System calls that return a socket address do so by writing the (possibly
truncated) address into the provided buffer space, but setting the
addrlen parameter to the actual size of the address. To determine how
much to copy back to the target memory the emulation needs to remember
the incoming value of the addrlen parameter, so that it doesn't write
past the buffer limits.

The license information in these files is rather confusing. The text
declares LGPL first, but then says that contributions after 2012 are
licensed under the GPL instead. How should the average user who just
downloaded the release tarball know which part is now GPL and which
is LGPL?
Looking at the text of the LGPL (see COPYING.LIB in the top directory),
the license clearly states how this should be done instead:
"3. You may opt to apply the terms of the ordinary GNU General Public
License instead of this License to a given copy of the Library. To do
this, you must alter all the notices that refer to this License, so
that they refer to the ordinary GNU General Public License, version 2,
instead of to this License."
Thus let's clean up the confusing statements and use the proper GPL
text only.

Coverity warns (CID 1390634) that open_net_route() is not
checking the return value from sscanf(), which means that
it might then use values that aren't initialized.
Errors here should in general not happen since we're passing
an assumed-good /proc/net/route from the host kernel, but
if we do fail to parse a line then just skip it in the output
we pass to the guest.

It's either "GNU *Library* General Public License version 2" or
"GNU Lesser General Public License version *2.1*", but there was
no "version 2.0" of the "Lesser" license. So assume that version
2.1 is meant here.
Also some files mention the GPL instead of the LGPL after declaring
that the files are licensed under the LGPL, so change these spots to

Clang version 3.4.2 does not know the -Wpragmas option yet and bails
out with an error when we try to disable it in linux-user/qemu.h.
Fortunately, clang has a __has_warning() macro which allows us to add
an explicit check for the option that we want to ignore. With that we
can check for the availability of "-Waddress-of-packed-member" properly
and do not need the "-Wpragmas" at all here.

Most files that have TABs only contain a handful of them. Change
them to spaces so that we don't confuse people.
disas, standard-headers, linux-headers and libdecnumber are imported
from other projects and probably should be exempted from the check.
Outside those, after this patch the following files still contain both
8-space and TAB sequences at the beginning of the line. Many of them
have a majority of TABs, or were initially committed with all tabs.

Most list head structs need not be given a name. In most cases the
name is given just in case one is going to use QTAILQ_LAST, QTAILQ_PREV
or reverse iteration, but this does not apply to lists of other kinds,
and even for QTAILQ in practice this is only rarely needed. In addition,
we will soon reimplement those macros completely so that they do not
need a name for the head struct. So clean up everything, not giving a
name except in the rare case where it is necessary.

Linux returns success if pwrite64() or pread64() are called with a
zero length NULL buffer, but QEMU was returning -TARGET_EFAULT.
This is the same bug that we fixed in commit 58cfa6c2e6
for the write syscall, and long before that in 38d840e679
for the read syscall.

In order to allow for future conversion of VSX instructions to use TCG vector
operations, recreate the same layout using an aligned version of the existing
vsr register array.
Since the old fpr and avr register arrays are removed, the existing callers
must also be updated to use the correct offset in the vsr register array. This
also includes switching the relevant VMState fields over to using subarrays
to make sure that migration is preserved.

Coverity complains (CID 1390847) about some dead code in
do_sigreturn(). This is an if (err) clause that can never be
true, copied from the kernel (where __get_user returns an error).
The one code path that could report an error is in the
currently commented-out pseudocode for handling FPU register
restoring, so move the if into that comment (and fix the
broken indent in the comment in the process).
(The new position for the error check is also the semantically
correct one -- we should not restore the signal mask from
the signal frame if we get an error here, so the check must
be done before set_sigmask(), not after.)

The nios2 main loop code's code does some odd
things with gdb_handlesig() that no other target
CPU does: it has some signals that are delivered
to gdb and only to gdb. Stop doing this, and instead
behave like all the other targets:
* a trap instruction becomes a SIGTRAP
* an unhandled exception type returned from cpu_exec()
causes us to abort(), not to try to hand gdb a SIGILL
This fixes in passing Coverity issue CID 1390853,
which was a complaint that the old code failed to
check the return value from gdb_handlesig().

The CPU main-loop routines for linux-user generally
call gdb_handlesig() when they're about to queue a
SIGTRAP signal. This is wrong, because queue_signal()
will cause us to pend a signal, and process_pending_signals()
will then call gdb_handlesig() itself. So the effect is that
we notify gdb of the SIGTRAP, and then if gdb says "OK,
continue with signal X" we will incorrectly notify
gdb of the signal X as well. We don't do this double-notify
for anything else, only SIGTRAP.
Remove this unnecessary and incorrect code from all
the targets except for nios2 (whose main loop is
doing something different and broken, and will be handled
in a separate patch).
This bug only manifests if the user responds to the reported
SIGTRAP using "signal SIGFOO" rather than "continue"; since
the latter is the overwhelmingly common thing to do after a
breakpoint most people won't have hit this.

Remove some dead code spotted by Coverity (CID 1009855,
1390854, 1390847). The underlying cause in all these cases
is the same: QEMU's put_user operations can't result in
errors, but the kernel's equivalent does. So when code
was copied from the kernel signal-frame-setup/teardown
code, checks on error flags that were needed in the kernel
became dead code for us.

Coldfire defines an "Unsupported instruction" exception if execution
of a valid instruction is attempted but the required hardware is not
present in the processor.
We use it with instructions that are in fact undefined or illegal,
and the exception expected in this case by the kernel is the
illegal exception, so this patch fixes that.

Stack pointer alignment code incorrectly adds stack_size to sp instead
of subtracting it. It also does not take flat_argvp_envp_on_stack() into
account when calculating stack_size. This results in initial stack
pointer misalignment with certain set of command line arguments and
environment variables and correct alignment for the same binary with a
different set of arguments. This misalignment causes failures in the
following tests in the testsuite of gcc built for xtensa uclinux:

This kind of ELF for the R5900 relies on an IEEE 754-1985 compliant FPU.
The R5900 FPU hardware is noncompliant and it is therefore emulated in
software by the Linux kernel. QEMU emulates a compliant FPU accordingly.

Both arm and thumb2 division are controlled by the same ISAR field,
which takes care of the arm implies thumb case. Having M imply
thumb2 division was wrong for cortex-m0, which is v6m and does not
have thumb2 at all, much less thumb2 division.

Userspace submits a USB Request Buffer to the kernel, optionally
discards it, and finally reaps the URB. Thunk buffers from target
to host and back.
Tested by running an i386 scanner driver on ARMv7 and by running
the PowerPC lsusb utility on x86_64. The discardurb ioctl is
not exercised in these tests.

Add MIPS-specific prctl() options TARGET_PR_SET_FP_MODE and
TARGET_PR_SET_FP_MODE. These values are essentially copied from
linux kernel header include/uapi/linux/prctl.h.
This is done in a way consistent with a similar case of
aarch64-specific prctl() options TARGET_PR_SVE_SET_VL and
TARGET_PR_SVE_GET_VL.

Remove a comment suggesting that we need to call tb_flush()
after writing the SPARC signal frame trampoline insns.
This isn't necessary in QEMU, because (even if the guest
architecture requires explicit icache maintenance) we
ensure that memory writes result in invalidation of
translated code from that memory.

Our __get_user_e() and __put_user_e() macros cause newer versions
of clang to generate false-positive -Waddress-of-packed-member
warnings if they are passed the address of a member of a packed
struct (see https://bugs.llvm.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39113).
Suppress these using the _Pragma() operator. Unfortunately
_Pragma() support in gcc is broken in some gcc versions and
in some usage contexts, so we limit the pragma usage here to clang.
To put in the pragmas we need to convert the macros from
expressions to statements, but all the callsites effectively
treat them as statements already so this is OK.

setrlimit guest calls that affect memory resources
(RLIMIT_{AS,DATA,STACK}) may interfere with QEMU internal memory
management. They may result in QEMU lockup because mprotect call in
page_unprotect would fail with ENOMEM error code, causing infinite loop
of SIGSEGV. E.g. it happens when running libstdc++ testsuite for xtensa
target on x86_64 host.
Don't call host setrlimit for memory-related resources.

addressing. TARGET_NR_read is already consistent with Linux for
this case.
- Q. Do pread64/pwrite64 need to be changed similarly?
A. Experiment suggests not: both linux and linux-user yield -1 for
NULL 0-length reads/writes.

If the hostpage size is greater than the TARGET_PAGESIZE, the
target-pages of size TARGET_PAGESIZE are marked valid only till the
length requested during the elfload. The glibc attempts to consume unused
space in the last page of data segment(__libc_memalign() in
elf/dl-minimal.c). If PT_LOAD p_align is greater than or
equal to hostpage size, the GLRO(dl_pagesize) is actually the host pagesize
as set in the auxillary vectors. So, there is no explicit mmap request for
the remaining target-pages on the last hostpage. The glibc assumes that
particular space as available and subsequent attempts to use
those addresses lead to crash as the target_mmap has not marked them valid
for those target-pages.
The issue is seen when trying to chroot to 16.04-x86_64 ubuntu on a PPC64
host where the fork fails to access the thread_id as it is allocated on a
page not marked valid. The recent glibc doesn't have checks for thread-id in
fork, but the issue can manifest somewhere else, none the less.
The fix here is to map all the target-pages of the hostpage during the
elfload if the p_align is greater than or equal to hostpage size, for
data segment to allow the glibc for proper consumption.

This adds the HWCAP2 bit to detect if a linux user process is
running on an ISA 3.0 compliant cpu like POWER9. This can be
verified using a simple test program that prints the value in
the auxiliary vector for AT_HWCAP2 as shown below.

Iterating over the list without using atomics is undefined behaviour,
since the list can be modified concurrently by other threads (e.g.
every time a new thread is created in user-mode).
Fix it by implementing the CPU list as an RCU QTAILQ. This requires
a little bit of extra work to traverse list in reverse order (see
previous patch), but other than that the conversion is trivial.

sparc32plus has 64bit long type but only 32bit virtual address space.
For instance, "apt-get upgrade" failed because of a mmap()/msync()
sequence.
mmap() returned 0xff252000 but msync() used g2h(0xffffffffff252000)
to find the host address. The "(target_ulong)" in g2h() doesn't fix the
address because it is 64bit long.
This patch introduces an "abi_ptr" that is set to uint32_t
if the virtual address space is addressed using 32bit in the linux-user
case. It stays set to target_ulong with softmmu case.

Add ability to target platforms to individually include user-mode
support for system calls from "stat" group of system calls.
This change is related to new nanoMIPS platform in the sense that
it supports a different set of "stat" system calls than any other
target. nanoMIPS does not support structures stat and stat64 at
all. Also, support for certain number of other system calls is
dropped in nanoMIPS (those are most of the time obsoleted system
calls).
Without this patch, build for nanoMIPS would fail.

This allows the default (and maximum) vector length to be set
from the command-line. Which is extraordinarily helpful in
debugging problems depending on vector length without having to
bake knowledge of PR_SET_SVE_VL into every guest binary.

r11 is a volatile register on PPC as per calling conventions.
The safe_syscall code uses it to check if the signal_pending
is set during the safe_syscall. When a syscall is interrupted
on return from signal handling, the r11 might be corrupted
before we retry the syscall leading to a crash. The registers
r0-r13 are not to be used here as they have
volatile/designated/reserved usages.
Change the code to use r14 which is non-volatile.
Use SP+16 which is a slot for LR, for save/restore of previous value
of r14. SP+16 can be used, as LR is preserved across the syscall.
Steps to reproduce:
On PPC host, issue `qemu-x86_64 /usr/bin/cc -E -`
Attempt Ctrl-C, the issue is reproduced.

I've slightly re-organised the check to more closely match the
sequence that the kernel uses in do_mmap(). We check for both the zero
case (EINVAL) and the overflow length case (ENOMEM).

This allows the tests generated by debian-powerpc-user-cross
to function properly, especially tests/test-coroutine.
Technically this syscall is available to both ppc32 and ppc64,
but only ppc32 glibc actually uses it. Thus the ppc64 path is
untested.

When we try to use some targets on ppc64, it can happen the target
doesn't support the host page size to align ELF load sections and
fails with:
ELF load command alignment not page-aligned
Since commit a70daba377 ("linux-user: Tell guest about big host
page sizes") the host page size is used to align ELF sections, but
this doesn't work if the alignment required by the load section is
smaller than the host one. For these cases, we continue to use the
TARGET_PAGE_SIZE instead of the host one.
I have tested this change on ppc64, and it fixes qemu linux-user for:
s390x, m68k, i386, arm, aarch64, hppa
and I have tested it doesn't break the following targets:
x86_64, mips64el, sh4
mips and mipsel abort, but I think for another reason.

If this is not done, qemu would drop any control message after the first
one.
This is because glibc's `CMSG_NXTHDR` macro accesses the uninitialized
cmsghdr's length field in order to find out if the message fits into the
`msg_control` buffer, wrongly assuming that it doesn't because the
length field contains garbage. Accessing the length field is fine for
completed messages we receive from the kernel, but is - as far as I know
- not needed since the kernel won't return such an invalid cmsghdr in
the first place.

It's probably also a good idea to bail with an error if `CMSG_NXTHDR`
returns NULL but `TARGET_CMSG_NXTHDR` doesn't (ie. we still expect
cmsgs).

The value given by mmap_find_vma_reserved() is used with mmap(),
so it is needed to be aligned with the host page size.
Since commit 18e80c55bb, reserved_va is only aligned to TARGET_PAGE_SIZE,
and it works well if this size is greater or equal to the host page size.
But ppc64 hosts have 64kB page size and when we start a 4kiB page size
guest (like i386), it fails when it tries to mmap the stack:

Qemu includes the glibc headers for the host defines and target headers are
part of the qemu source themselves. The glibc has the F_GETLK64, F_SETLK64
and F_SETLKW64 defined to 12, 13 and 14 for all archs in
sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/bits/fcntl-linux.h. The linux kernel generic
definition for F_*LK is 5, 6 & 7 and F_*LK64* is 12,13, and 14 as seen in
include/uapi/asm-generic/fcntl.h. On 64bit machine, by default the kernel
assumes all F_*LK to 64bit calls and doesnt support use of F_*LK64* as
can be seen in include/linux/fcntl.h in linux source.
On x86_64 host, the values for F_*LK64* are set to 5, 6 and 7
explicitly in /usr/include/x86_64-linux-gnu/bits/fcntl.h by the glibc.
Whereas, a PPC64 host doesn't have such a definition in
/usr/include/powerpc64le-linux-gnu/bits/fcntl.h by the glibc. So,
the sources on PPC64 host sees the default value of F_*LK64*
as 12, 13 & 14(fcntl-linux.h).
Since the 64bit kernel doesnt support 12, 13 & 14; the glibc fcntl syscall
implementation(__libc_fcntl*(), __fcntl64_nocancel) does the F_*LK64* value
convertion back to F_*LK* values on PPC64 as seen in
sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/powerpc/powerpc64/sysdep.h with FCNTL_ADJUST_CMD()
macro. Whereas on x86_64 host the values for F_*LK64* are set to 5, 6 and 7
and no adjustments are needed.
Since qemu doesnt use the glibc fcntl, but makes the safe_syscall* on its
own, the PPC64 qemu is calling the syscall with 12, 13, and 14(without
adjustment) and they all fail. The fcntl calls to F_GETLK/F_SETLK|W all
fail by all pplications run on PPC64 host user emulation.
The fix here could be to see why on PPC64 the glibc is still keeping
F_*LK64* different from F_*LK and why adjusting them to 5, 6 and 7 before
the syscall for PPC only. See if we can make the
/usr/include/powerpc64le-linux-gnu/bits/fcntl.h to have the values
5, 6 & 7 just like x86_64 and remove the adjustment code in glibc. That
way, qemu sources see the kernel supported values in glibc headers.
OR
On PPC64 host, qemu sources see both F_*LK & F_*LK64* as same and set to
12, 13 and 14 because __USE_FILE_OFFSET64 is defined in qemu
sources(also refer sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/bits/fcntl-linux.h).
Do the value adjustment just like it is done by glibc source by using
F_GETLK value of 5. That way, we make the syscalls with the actual
supported values in Qemu. The patch is taking this approach.

As we don't always take the normal exit path when running a guest we
can skip the normal exit destructors where gcov normally dumps it's
info. The GCC manual suggests long running programs use __gcov_dump()
to flush out the coverage state periodically so we use that here.

knowledge of translate-all.h (which is an internal header) from
several files outside accel/tcg and removes knowledge of
AddressSpace from translate-all.c (as it only operates on ram_addr_t).

Use mmap_lock in user-mode to protect TCG state and the page descriptors.
In !user-mode, each vCPU has its own TCG state, so no locks needed.
Per-page locks are used to protect the page descriptors.
Per-TB locks are used in both modes to protect TB jumps.
Some notes:
- tb_lock is removed from notdirty_mem_write by passing a
locked page_collection to tb_invalidate_phys_page_fast.
- tcg_tb_lookup/remove/insert/etc have their own internal lock(s),
so there is no need to further serialize access to them.
- do_tb_flush is run in a safe async context, meaning no other
vCPU threads are running. Therefore acquiring mmap_lock there
is just to please tools such as thread sanitizer.
- Not visible in the diff, but tb_invalidate_phys_page already
has an assert_memory_lock.
- cpu_io_recompile is !user-only, so no mmap_lock there.
- Added mmap_unlock()'s before all siglongjmp's that could
be called in user-mode while mmap_lock is held.
+ Added an assert for !have_mmap_lock() after returning from
the longjmp in cpu_exec, just like we do in cpu_exec_step_atomic.

Coverity points out that there's a missing break in the switch in
host_to_target_cmsg() where we update tgt_len for
cmsg_level/cmsg_type combinations which require a different length
for host and target (CID 1385425). To avoid duplicating the default
case (target length same as host) in both switches, set that before
the switch so that only the cases which want to override it need any
code.
This fixes a bug where we would have used the wrong length
for SOL_SOCKET/SO_TIMESTAMP messages where the target and
host have differently sized 'struct timeval' (ie one is 32
bit and the other is 64 bit).

cpu_init() was replaced by cpu_create() since 2.12 but comments
weren't updated. So update stale comments to point that page

As l_type values (F_RDLCK, F_WRLCK, F_UNLCK, F_EXLCK, F_SHLCK)
are not bitmasks, we can't use target_to_host_bitmask() and
host_to_target_bitmask() to convert them.

Since commit 8efb2ed5ec ("linux-user: Correct signedness of
target_flock l_start and l_len fields"), flock64 structure uses
abi_llong for l_start and l_len in place of "unsigned long long"
this should force them to be aligned accordingly to the target
rules. So we can remove the padding field and the QEMU_PACKED
attribute.
I have compared the result of the following program before and
after the change:

The sizeof() changes because we remove the QEMU_PACKED.
The new size is 32 (except for i386 and m68k) and this is
the real size of "struct flock64" on the target architecture.

The FDPIC restorer needs to deal with a function descriptor, hence we
have to extend 'retcode' such that it can hold the instructions needed
to perform this.
The restorer sequence uses the same thumbness as the exception
handler (mainly to support Thumb-only architectures).

We want to avoid code disabled by default, because it ends up less
tested. This patch removes all instances of #ifdef CONFIG_USE_FDPIC,
most of which can be safely kept. For the ones that should be
conditionally executed, we define elf_is_fdpic(). Without this patch,
defining CONFIG_USE_FDPIC would prevent QEMU from building precisely
because elf_is_fdpic is not defined.

Currently we mishandle emulation of the getdents syscall for the
case of a 64 bit guest on a 32 bit host -- it defaults into
the 'host and guest same size' codepath and generates incorrect
structures in the guest buffer.
We can't easily handle the 64-on-32 case using the host getdents
syscall, because the guest struct dirent is bigger than the
host struct dirent, and we might find the host syscall has handed
us back more records than we can fit in the guest buffer after
conversion. Instead, always emulate 64-on-32 getdents with
the host getdents64. This avoids the buffer-overrun problem
because a dirent64 struct is always the same size on any host
and always larger than any architecture's dirent struct.

As support for RISC-V was only merged into the mainline kernel at 4.15
it is unlikely that glibc will be happy with a reported kernel version
of 3.8.0. Indeed when I testing binaries created by the current Debian
Sid compiler the tests failed with:

In commit 8c5931de0a we added support for SVE extended
sigframe records. These mean that the signal frame might now be
larger than the size of the target_rt_sigframe record, so make sure
we call lock_user on the entire frame size when we're creating it.
(The code for restoring the signal frame already correctly handles
the extended records by locking the 'extra' section separately to the
main section.)
In particular, this fixes a bug even for non-SVE signal frames,
because it extends the locked section to cover the
target_rt_frame_record. Previously this was part of 'struct
target_rt_sigframe', but in commit e1eecd1d9d we pulled
it out into its own struct, and so locking the target_rt_sigframe
alone doesn't cover it. This bug would mean that we would fail
to correctly handle the case where a signal was taken with
SP pointing 16 bytes into an unwritable page, with the page
immediately below it in memory being writable.

AArch64 stack frames include a 'frame record' which holds a pointer
to the next frame record in the chain and the LR on entry to the
function. The procedure calling standard doesn't mandate where
exactly this frame record is in the stack frame, but for signal
frames the kernel puts it right at the top. We used to put it
there too, but in commit 7f0f4208b3 we accidentally put
the "enlarge to the 4K reserved space minimum" check after the
"allow for the frame record" code, rather than before it, with
the effect that the frame record would be inside the reserved
space and immediately after the last used part of it.
Move the frame record back out of the reserved space to where
we used to put it.
This bug shouldn't break any sensible guest code, but test
programs that deliberately look at the internal details
of the signal frame layout will not find what they are
expecting to see.

The AArch64 signal frame design was extended for SVE in commit
8c5931de0a, so that instead of having a fixed setup we
now add various records to the frame, with some of them possibly
overflowing into an extra space outside the original 4K reserved
block in the target_sigcontext. However, we failed to ensure that we
always at least allocate the 4K reserved block. This is ABI, and
some userspace programs rely on it. In particular the dash shell
would segfault if the frame wasn't as big enough.
(Compare the kernel's sigframe_size() function in
arch/arm64/kernel/signal.c.)

preadv/pwritev accept low and high parts of file offset in two separate
parameters. When host bitness doesn't match guest bitness these parts
must be appropriately recombined.
Introduce target_to_host_low_high that does this recombination and use
it in preadv/pwritev syscalls.
This fixes glibc testsuite test misc/tst-preadvwritev64.

mq_getsetattr implementation does not set errno correctly in case of
error. Also in the presence of both 2nd and 3rd arguments it calls both
mq_getattr and mq_setattr, whereas only the latter call would suffice.
Don't call mq_getattr in the presence of the 2nd argument. Don't copy
output back to user in case of error. Use get_errno to set errno value.
This fixes test rt/tst-mqueue2 from the glibc testsuite.

cpu_copy adds newly created CPU object to container/machine/unattached,
but does it w/o proper locking. As a result when multiple threads create
threads rapidly QEMU may abort with the following message:

flush_window_regs uses wrong stack frame to save overflow registers in
call8 and call12 frames, which results in wrong register values in
callers of a function that received a signal.
Reimplement flush_window_regs closely following window overflow
sequence.

At a fixed distance after the usable memory that init_guest_space maps, for
32-bit ARM targets we also need to map a commpage. The normal
init_guest_space logic doesn't keep this in mind when searching for an
address range.
If !host_start, then try to find a big continuous segment where we can put
both the usable memory and the commpage; we then munmap that segment and
set current_start to that address; and let the normal code mmap the usable
memory and the commpage separately. That is: if we don't have hint of
where to start looking for memory, come up with one that is better than
NULL. Depending on host_size and guest_start, there may or may not be a
gap between the usable memory and the commpage, so this is slightly more
restrictive than it needs to be; but it's only a hint, so that's OK.
We only do that for !host start, because if host_start, then either:
- we got an address passed in with -B, in which case we don't want to
interfere with what the user said;
- or host_start is based off of the ELF image's loaddr. The check "if
(host_start && real_start != current_start)" suggests that we really
want lowest available address that is >= loaddr. I don't know why that
is, but I'm trusting that Paul Brook knew what he was doing when he
wrote the original version of that check in
c581deda32 way back in 2010.

With all targets defining CPU_RESOLVING_TYPE, refactor
cpu_parse_cpu_model(type, cpu_model) to parse_cpu_model(cpu_model)
so that callers won't have to know internal resolving cpu
type. Place it in exec.c so it could be called from both
target independed vl.c and *-user/main.c.
That allows us to stop abusing cpu type from
MachineClass::default_cpu_type
as resolver class in vl.c which were confusing part of
cpu_parse_cpu_model().
Also with new parse_cpu_model(), the last users of cpu_init()
in null-machine.c and bsd/linux-user targets could be switched
to cpu_create() API and cpu_init() API will be removed by
follow up patch.
With no longer users left remove MachineState::cpu_model field,
new code should use MachineState::cpu_type instead and
leave cpu_model parsing to generic code in vl.c.

target_mprotect/target_munmap return value goes through get_errno at the
call site, thus the functions must either set errno to host error code
and return -1 or return negative guest error code. Do the latter.

In linux-user QEMU that runs for a target with TARGET_ABI_BITS bigger
than L1_MAP_ADDR_SPACE_BITS an assertion in page_set_flags fires when
mmap, munmap, mprotect, mremap or shmat is called for an address outside
the guest address space. mmap and mprotect should return ENOMEM in such
case.
Change definition of GUEST_ADDR_MAX to always be the last valid guest
address. Account for this change in open_self_maps.
Add macro guest_addr_valid that verifies if the guest address is valid.
Add function guest_range_valid that verifies if address range is within
guest address space and does not wrap around. Use that macro in
mmap/munmap/mprotect/mremap/shmat for error checking.

If the ensure-alignment code gets triggered, then the
"if (host_start && real_start != current_start)" check will always trigger,
so save 2 syscalls and put that check first.
Note that we can't just switch to using MAP_FIXED for that check, because
then we couldn't differentiate between a failure because "there isn't
enough space" and "there isn't enough space *here*".

Since commit 67a1de0d19 there is no space anymore between the
version number and the parentheses when running configure with
--with-pkgversion=foo :
$ qemu-system-s390x --version
QEMU emulator version 2.11.50(foo)
But the space is included when building without that option
when building from a git checkout:
$ qemu-system-s390x --version
QEMU emulator version 2.11.50 (v2.11.0-1494-gbec9c64-dirty)
The same confusion exists with the "query-version" QMP command.
Let's fix this by introducing a proper QEMU_FULL_VERSION definition
that includes the space and parentheses, while the QEMU_PKGVERSION
should just cleanly contain the package version string itself.
Note that this also changes the behavior of the "query-version" QMP
command (the space and parentheses are not included there anymore),
but that's supposed to be OK since the strings there are not meant
to be parsed by other tools.

There are 3 parts to this change:
- Add a comment showing the relative sizes and positions of the blocks of
memory
- introduce and use new aligned_{start,size} instead of adjusting
real_{start_size}
- When we clean up (on failure), munmap(real_start, real_size) instead of
munmap(aligned_start, aligned_size). It *shouldn't* make any
difference, but I will admit that this does mean we are making the
syscall with different values, so this isn't quite a no-op patch.

init_guest_commpage needs to check if the mapped space, which ends at
real_start+real_size overlaps with where it needs to put the commpage,
which is (assuming sane qemu_host_page_size) guest_base + 0xffff000, where
guest_base is real_start - guest_start.

Since init_guest_commpage wants to do everything relative to guest_base
(rather than real_start), it obviously needs to be comparing 0xffff0000
against guest_start+real_size, not just real_size.
This bug has been present since 806d102141 in
2012, but guest_start is usually 0, and prior to v2.11 real_size was
usually much smaller than 0xffff0000, so it was uncommon for it to have
made a difference.

init_guest_commpage is a much more honest description of what the function
does. validate_guest_space not only suggests that the function has no
side-effects, but also introduces confusion as to why it is only needed on
32-bit ARM targets.

Now we've dropped unicore32, all of the architectures we support
for linux-user implement the signal handling routines. The
dummy "just print a message" versions are unimplemented, so we
can drop them entirely.

We dropped the unicore32-linux-user target in commit 5e2b40f727
in 2016. Nobody has made any attempt to fix the issues that
caused us to drop it, so remove the associated code.

This changes the qemu signal frame layout to be more like the kernel's,
in that the various records are dynamically allocated rather than fixed
in place by a structure.
For now, all of the allocation is out of uc.tuc_mcontext.__reserved,
so the allocation is actually trivial. That will change with SVE support.

M680x0 doesn't support the same set of instructions
as ColdFire, so we can't use "any" CPU type to execute
m68020 instructions.
We select CPU type ("m68040" or "any" for ColdFire)
according to the ELF header. If we can't, we
use by default the value used until now: "any".

Back when we used to support compiling either with or without
NPTL threading library support, we used a macro THREAD which would
expand either to nothing (no thread support) or to __thread (threads
supported). For a long time now we have required thread support,
so remove the macro and just use __thread directly as other parts
of QEMU do.

sched_get/setaffinity linux-user syscalls were missing conversions for
little/big endian, which is hairy since longs may not be the same size
either.
For simplicity, this just introduces loops to convert bit by bit like is
done for select.

mmap() is required by the linux kernel ABI and POSIX to return a
non-NULL address when the implementation chooses a start address for the
mapping.
The current implementation of mmap_find_vma_reserved() can return NULL
as start address of a mapping which leads to subsequent crashes inside
the guests glibc, e.g. output of qemu-arm-static --strace executing a
test binary stx_test:

The third argument to dup3() is a flags word which may be
O_CLOEXEC. We weren't translating this flag from target to
host value, which meant that if the target used a different
value from the host (eg sparc guest and x86 host) the dup3()
call would fail EINVAL. Do the correct translation.

The Linux struct cmsghdr is already guaranteed to be sufficiently
aligned that CMSG_ALIGN(sizeof struct cmsghdr) is always equal
to sizeof struct cmsghdr. Stop doing the unnecessary alignment
arithmetic for host and target cmsghdr.
This follows kernel commit 1ff8cebf49ed9e9ca2 and brings our
TARGET_CMSG_* macros back into line with the kernel ones,
as well as making them easier to understand.

The handling of length calculations in host_to_target_cmsg()
was rather confused:
* when checking for whether the target cmsg header fit in
the remaining buffer, we were using the host struct size,
not the target size
* we were setting tgt_len to "target payload + header length"
but then using it as if it were the target payload length alone
* in various message type cases we weren't handling the possibility
that host or target buffers were truncated
Fix these problems. The second one in particular is liable
to result in us overrunning the guest provided buffer,
since we will try to convert more data than is actually
present.

When we do a fork() in usermode emulation, we need to be in
a start/end exclusive section, so that we can ensure that no
other thread is in an RCU section. Otherwise you can get this
deadlock:
- fork thread: has mmap_lock, waits for rcu_sync_lock
(because rcu_init_lock() is registered as a pthread_atfork() hook)
- RCU thread: has rcu_sync_lock, waits for rcu_read_(un)lock
- another CPU thread: in RCU critical section, waits for mmap_lock
This can show up if you have a heavily multithreaded guest program
that does a fork().

Our locking order is that the tb lock should be taken
inside the mmap_lock, but fork_start() grabs locks the
other way around. This means that if a heavily multithreaded
guest process (such as Java) calls fork() it can deadlock,
with the thread that called fork() stuck in fork_start()
with the tb lock and waiting for the mmap lock, but some
other thread in tb_find() with the mmap lock and waiting
for the tb lock. The cpu_list_lock() should also always be
taken last, not first.
Fix this by making fork_start() grab the locks in the
right order. The order in which we drop locks doesn't
matter, so we leave fork_end() the way it is.

Our copy of the nwfpe code for emulating of the old FPA11 floating
point unit doesn't check the coprocessor number in the instruction
when it emulates it. This means that we might treat some
instructions which should really UNDEF as being FPA11 instructions by
accident.
The kernel's copy of the nwfpe code doesn't make this error; I suspect
the bug was noticed and fixed as part of the process of mainlining
the nwfpe code more than a decade ago.
Add a check that the coprocessor number (which is always in bits
[11:8] of the instruction) is either 1 or 2, which is where the
FPA11 lives.

Since for aarch64 the signal trampoline is synthesized directly into the
signal frame we need to make sure the instructions end up little-endian.
Otherwise the wrong endianness will cause a SIGILL upon return from the
signal handler on big-endian targets.

Enable big-endian mode for data accesses on aarch64 for big-endian linux
user mode. Activate it for all exception levels as documented by ARM:
Set the SCTLR EE bit for ELs 1 through 3. Additionally set bit E0E in
EL1 to enable it in EL0 as well.

In commit 7c4ee5bcc8 we changed the order in which we construct
the AUXV, but forgot to adjust the calculation of the length. The
result is that we set info->auxv_len to a bogus and negative value,
and then later on the code in open_self_auxv() gets confused and
ends up presenting the guest with an empty file.
Since we now have to calculate the auxv length up-front as part
of figuring out how much we're going to put on the stack, set
info->auxv_len then; this allows us to assert that we put the
same number of entries into auxv as we pre-calculated, rather
than merely having a comment saying we need to do that.

SPARC is like Alpha in its handling of the rt_sigaction syscall:
it takes an extra parameter 'restorer' which needs to be copied
into the sa_restorer field of the sigaction struct. The order
of the arguments differs slightly between SPARC and Alpha but
the implementation is otherwise the same. (Compare the
rt_sigaction() functions in arch/sparc/kernel/sys_sparc_64.c
and arch/alpha/kernel/signal.c.)
Note that this change is somewhat moot until SPARC acquires
support for actually delivering RT signals.

For faults on loads and stores, ppc_cpu_handle_mmu_fault() in
target/ppc/user_only_helper.c stores the offending address
in env->spr[SPR_DAR]. Report this correctly to the guest
in si_addr, rather than incorrectly using the address of the
instruction that caused the fault.
This fixes the test case in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/qemu/+bug/1077116
for ppc, ppc64 and ppc64le.

For s390x, the address passed to a signal handler in the
siginfo_t si_addr field is masked (in the kernel this is done in
do_sigbus() and do_sigsegv() in arch/s390/mm/fault.c). Implement
this architecture-specific oddity in linux-user.

If an application tries to install a seccomp filter using
prctl(PR_SET_SECCOMP), the filter is likely for the target instead of the host
architecture. This will probably cause qemu to be immediately killed when it
executes another syscall.
Prevent this from happening by returning EINVAL from both seccomp prctl
calls. This is the error returned by the kernel when seccomp support is
disabled.

currently for sh4 cpu_model argument for '-cpu' option
could be either 'cpu model' name or cpu_typename.
however typically '-cpu' takes 'cpu model' name and
cpu type for sh4 target isn't advertised publicly
('-cpu help' prints only 'cpu model' names) so we
shouldn't care about this use case (it's more of a bug).
1. Drop '-cpu cpu_typename' to align with the rest of
targets.
2. Compose searched for typename from cpu model and use
it with object_class_by_name() directly instead of
over-complicated
object_class_get_list()
g_slist_find_custom() + superh_cpu_name_compare()
With #1 droped, #2 could be used for both lookups which
simplifies superh_cpu_class_by_name() quite a bit.

This enables parallel TCG code generation. However, we do not take
advantage of it yet since tb_lock is still held during tb_gen_code.
In user-mode we use a single TCG context; see the documentation
added to tcg_region_init for the rationale.
Note that targets do not need any conversion: targets initialize a
TCGContext (e.g. defining TCG globals), and after this initialization
has finished, the context is cloned by the vCPU threads, each of
them keeping a separate copy.
TCG threads claim one entry in tcg_ctxs[] by atomically increasing
n_tcg_ctxs. Do not be too annoyed by the subsequent atomic_read's
of that variable and tcg_ctxs; they are there just to play nice with
analysis tools such as thread sanitizer.
Note that we do not allocate an array of contexts (we allocate
an array of pointers instead) because when tcg_context_init
is called, we do not know yet how many contexts we'll use since
the bool behind qemu_tcg_mttcg_enabled() isn't set yet.

This is groundwork for supporting multiple TCG contexts.
The naive solution here is to split code_gen_buffer statically
among the TCG threads; this however results in poor utilization
if translation needs are different across TCG threads.
What we do here is to add an extra layer of indirection, assigning
regions that act just like pages do in virtual memory allocation.
(BTW if you are wondering about the chosen naming, I did not want
to use blocks or pages because those are already heavily used in QEMU).
We use a global lock to serialize allocations as well as statistics
reporting (we now export the size of the used code_gen_buffer with
tcg_code_size()). Note that for the allocator we could just use
a counter and atomic_inc; however, that would complicate the gathering
of tcg_code_size()-like stats. So given that the region operations are
not a fast path, a lock seems the most reasonable choice.
The effectiveness of this approach is clear after seeing some numbers.
I used the bootup+shutdown of debian-arm with '-tb-size 80' as a benchmark.
Note that I'm evaluating this after enabling per-thread TCG (which
is done by a subsequent commit).

Note that for now we set *tcg_ctx to whatever TCGContext is passed

The TARGET_MTIOCTOP/TARGET_MTIOCGET/TARGET_MTIOCPOS values
were being defined in terms of host struct types, but
these structures are such that their size might differ
on different hosts. Switch to using a target struct
definition instead.

We were defining TARGET_FS_IOC_GETFLAGS and TARGET_FS_IOC_SETFLAGS
using the host 'long' type in the size field, which meant that
they had the wrong values if the host and guest had different
sized longs. Switch to abi_long instead.
This fixes a bug where these ioctls don't work on 32-bit guests
on 64-bit hosts (and makes the LTP test 'setxattr03' pass
where it did not previously.)

We had a check using TARGET_VIRT_ADDR_SPACE_BITS to make sure
that the allocation coming in from the command-line option was
not too large, but that didn't include target-specific knowledge
about other restrictions on user-space.
Remove several target-specific hacks in linux-user/main.c.
For MIPS and Nios, we can replace them with proper adjustments
to the respective target's TARGET_VIRT_ADDR_SPACE_BITS definition.
For ARM, we had no existing ifdef but I suspect that the current
default value of 0xf7000000 was chosen with this in mind. Define
a workable value in linux-user/arm/, and also document why the
special case is required.

The 32-bit ARM validate_guest_space() check tests whether the
specified -R value leaves enough space for us to put the
commpage in at 0xffff0f00. However it was incorrectly doing
a <= check for the check against (guest_base + guest_size),
which meant that it wasn't permitting the guest space to
butt right up against the commpage.
Fix the comparison, so that -R values all the way up to 0xffff0000
work correctly.

Since O_TMPFILE might differ between guest and host,
add it to the bitmask_transtbl. While at it, fix the definitions
of O_DIRECTORY etc which should arm32 according to kernel sources.
This fixes open14 and openat03 ltp testcases. Fixes:

Almost every user of cpu_generic_init() checks for
returned NULL and then reports failure in a custom way
and aborts process.
Some users assume that call can't fail and don't check
for failure, though they should have checked for it.
In either cases cpu_generic_init() failure is fatal,
so instead of checking for failure and reporting
it various ways, make cpu_generic_init() report
errors in consistent way and terminate QEMU on failure.

Make CPUSPARCState::def embedded so it would be allocated as part
of cpu instance and we won't have to worry about cleaning def pointer
up mannualy on cpu destruction.
